Delighting customers with its umami-laden demi-glace curry since 2012, Monster Curry is one of the pioneer Japanese curry specialty restaurants in Singapore. In conjunction with the opening of Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Chronicle of the Moon Exploration on 25 July 2019, the Japanese curry specialist will be launching an exclusive new menu and range of merchandise celebrating the lovable manga and anime icon from 29 July until 30 September 2019 at all outlets.

A lovable global manga and anime icon, Doraemon has won the hearts of the young and young-at-heart since its manga debut in 1970, written and illustrated by Fujiko F Fujio, the pen name of Hiroshi Fujimoto. Winnie Loo, Senior Marketing Manager of Monster Curry, says, “We are pleased to have the opportunity to present this nostalgic icon that was a part of many childhoods. With the new menu, we hope to introduce the younger generation to this adorable character and bring families together.”

Monster Curry prides itself on offering house-made Japanese curry created with its proprietary blend of 14 vegetables and spices. Since its debut, the restaurant chain has grown to 13 outlets island-wide, including locations such as Nex, Vivocity, Novena Square and 100AM. Its latest outlet in Tampines One recently reopened following a revamp on 4 July 2019.

MONSTER-SIZED NEW DISHES Known for generous servings of curry in massive plates measuring up to 41-cm in diameter, Monster Curry has now transformed their signature dish to showcase this special campaign.

The Special Combo Curry ($28.80, good for two to share) combines the restaurant’s most popular toppings – Pork Katsu, Fried Fish, Jumbo Fried Ebi (Shrimps), Tori Karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) and Takoyaki (Japanese octopus balls). This dish is then finished off with Monster Curry’s signature demiglace curry and garnished with traditional Japanese pickled radish.

A one-person serving of Special Single Curry ($15.80) is also available, topped with a mouth-watering assortment of deep-fried goodies such as Pork Katsu, Jumbo Fried Ebi, Tori Karaage and Takoyaki, served on a massive 34-cm curry plate.

In addition to the new mains, fans can also delight in the Hokkaido Organic Potato Wedges ($11.80) that are served with a unique house-made curry mayonnaise. Diners will also be able to bring home an eye-catching Doraemon container with the purchase of this dish.

ADORABLE THIRST-QUENCHERS The Blue Calpis Soda ($5.80, with Doraemon coaster) features the popular Japanese yoghurt drink mixed with a blue soda, while the sunny-yellow Okinawa Shiquasa Soda ($5.80, with Doraemon coaster) is a fruity thirst-quencher, made with vitamin C-rich Shiquasa lime, mango juice and soda, Shiquasa lime is specially grown in Okinawa, Japan, and an excellent source of antioxidant citric acid. It is also said to be the secret of longevity and good health for Okinawans, who are known to be among the longest living people in the world. Both drinks are served with an exclusive Doraemon coaster (four designs available).

T-shirts ($25 nett) are available in three exclusive designs, depicting Doraemon alongside other characters from the same series. Soft Toys (from $12.80 nett, in various sizes) as well as a limited edition Tumbler ($11.80 nett) will also be available. Diners can also top up $9.80 with the order of any drink to obtain the exclusive Doraemon Tumbler. *Note: Sale of merchandise is only available for dine-in customers

The restaurant’s signature Japanese demi-glace curry is made with 14 different vegetables and spices, including aromatics like onions, mushroom and coffee powder, and cooked for two days. The result is a smooth and fragrant brown sauce that serves as a base for its star dishes. Diners can choose their choice of heat with Monster Curry’s secret blend of chilli sauce made with ingredients such as fresh chillies and olive oil. Six spice levels are available, from level zero (non-spicy) to level five (monster hot) – chilli sauce is added to each dish with the corresponding level number, in the shape of endearing ‘hearts’.

Monster Curry also offers Curry Ramen prepared with its signature demi-glace curry, as well as Japaneseinspired pasta and salad. Highlights include Chashu Curry Ramen with pork chashu (braised pork slices), Seafood Fantasy pasta with prawns, scallops and crabsticks in a tomato cream sauce, Prawny Shrooms pasta with prawns, mushrooms and seaweed in mentaiko (cod roe) cream sauce, and Big Fried Fish Salad.

Bold red wallpaper featuring the adorable illustrated mascot of the brand adorns the walls of Monster Curry outlets. Colourful furniture, lights and banquette seats juxtapose with dark wood tables, creating a casual and lively dining atmosphere that appeals to both the young and young at heart as they dig into massive plates of Japanese curry. –
