Pastaria Abate is all about a strong dedication to fresh handmade pastas, fresh ingredients and classic homestyle flavours at affordable prices! Started as a family business, the owner from Italy brings with him the traditional cooking method when he set up a shop in Singapore. They turn the finest flour from Italy into different types of pasta. They recently moved from their Craig Road location to across the road 86 Neil Road.
They install a long bar counter at the new place so guests could order drinks and enjoy at the counters. Decorated with new paintings and a bright yellow wall, the place feels more modern and keeping up with the time.
We recommend starting off with their special Spritz, colorful and sweet, perfect for a hot day.
Starters include Italian Grilled Pork Belly, which is soft and tender. One of the special dishes we tried is the deep-fried codfish, which the owner explained is a common dish in Italy.
Deep-Fried, Salt Cod (Baccalà) Dried salt cod, or baccalà, as it’s called in Italy. It’s readily available at Italian shops. It’s very easy to prepare, and the fact that it’s dried means you can keep it in your fridge to have it on hand whenever you want to make it. You need to soak it before cooking. Thinner pieces can be soaked overnight else the fish will taste too salty. Here the salted codfish is mixed with additional ingredients like potatoes and deep-fried. We eat it with their homemade red sauce.
The signature pizza and pasta never disappoint. For example, the Capriciosa Pizza we tried is covered with everything you want in a pizza, salami, mushrooms, artichoke , ham, olives…
Squid Ink Pasta, Spaghetti al nero di seppia (Spaghetti with Squid Ink) Squid ink has a unique “earthy” flavor, silky mouthfeel, and alluring jet black color that couples perfectly with pasta. I find it irresistible.
Complete the meal with their traditional Tiramisu and a cup of Espresso
